Destination: Graduation

United Way helps North Texas students like Malik excel in high school and graduate prepared for college and future success.

Graduate Now, Succeed Tomorrow

In North Texas, far too many students drop out of school or fail to graduate on time.

Destination: Graduation, launched in 2005, helps more than 3,700 local students graduate from high school and pursue advanced education. The program aligns with the United 2020 community goal of preparing 60 percent of high school graduates to succeed in education after high school.

For the 2011-2012 school year, Dallas high school seniors in Destination: Graduation graduated at a 11 percent higher rate than their peers who weren't in the program. In Plano, Destination: Graduation students closed the gap by 66 percent between low-socioeconomic-status students and the student body as a whole.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas collaborates with eight high schools across North Texas to customize the strategies its students most need, including college preparation, parental involvement and mentoring. Then United Way brings together the best service providers to execute these strategies — and works with the schools and districts over four years to make the program self-sustaining.
