Destination: Graduation opens door to college
"Destination: Graduation showed me that graduating was possible and that I could even go to college."
Destination: Graduation helped Karina graduate and prepare for college.
Intense course work and complications with credits left high school student Karina feeling defeated.
"I didn't think graduating was even possible," she says.
Through Destination: Graduation, the 17-year-old senior at Thomas Jefferson High School has developed a vastly different outlook.
"I want to study at UCLA and go to into fashion design and business," she says with pride.
Karina joined the education initiative her freshmen year, after her mother learned of the program through a United Way service provider.
"The program helped me learn how to get the credits I needed and how to be involved in school," says Karina, who now stays busy with several extra-curricular activities, including cheerleading, National Beta Club and science club.
"This program showed me that graduating was possible and that I could even go to college," Karina says.
