Greater Lewisville United Way board of directors will authorize $20,000 in emergency funding for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts through local chapters of American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Checks in the amount of $10,000 will be presented to agency representatives at Thursday’s board meeting. | |

Why: |
More than 10,000 survivors of Hurricane Katrina have been placed in the North Texas area. Although the majority of hurricane survivors are being temporarily housed at Dallas’ Reunion Arena and Convention Center, hundreds are being helped locally in Lewisville. These additional funds will help with the immediate and long-term needs of hurricane victims here in the Lewisville area. |

In the last two funding years, GLUW has provided more than $255,000 in crisis relief funds to its 12 member agencies. Of the $255,000, more than $91,000 in unrestricted funds were given to the American Red Cross – Denton Branch and The Salvation Army – Lewisville Corps. |
