United Way’s Hoff on what Obama said about education
by Lance Murray, Dallas Business Journal (source)
In his State of the Union speech, President Obama urged Congress to enact legislation that would promote job growth for the middle class and improve education systems across America.
Here is what Susan Hoff, chief strategy officer for the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, had to say about the speech:
"The President focused on several key points that resonated with United Way Metropolitan Dallas’ United 2020 goal of preparing students to graduate from high school ready to succeed in college and/or career – particularly the emphasis on early childhood education and the redesign of high schools.
United Way Metropolitan Dallas strongly supports increased access to high quality early childhood education, especially for low income children.
Investments in effective preschool programs have a high return on investment and a long term impact. However, access to high quality pre-k does not guarantee that children will continue to do well in school - kids need high quality education and effective teachers through every step of their school career in order to graduate from high school prepared to succeed in life.
