More companies than ever go above and beyond

(DALLAS, TX) - More than 145 local companies will join United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to celebrate their early fundraising successes this year. The number of companies that are United Way Pacesetters - organizations that run early United Way campaigns in the workplace between mid-March and mid-October - is the most ever, up this year to 146 organizations.

In total, employees at United Way Pacesetters have pledged approximately $19 million to improve lives by providing people with the building blocks for a good life: a quality Education that leads to a stable job, enough Income to support a family and the opportunity to live in good Health.

Five organizations will be recognized with Pacesetter LIVE UNITED awards for their outstanding work through Giving, Advocating and Volunteering for United Way. The organizations are: Citi, Atmos Energy Corporation, Bank of Texas, N.A., McLane Foodservice, and ChildCareGroup.

Five Pacesetter companies each have raised more than $1 million and will also be recognized at the event: AT&T/ CWA 6215, Energy Future Holdings Corp., JCPenney, Citi, and UPS.

"The steadfast commitment and support of our Pacesetter companies is critical and greatly appreciated," United Way of Metropolitan Dallas President and CEO Gary Godsey said. "Pacesetters are the backbone of every United Way campaign. They set the standard for other businesses and organizations in our community to emulate."

Pacesetters will be recognized at an awards luncheon sponsored by AT&T November 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. United Way Pacesetters are part of the larger, 86th annual United Way of Metropolitan Dallas campaign, which is underway through early 2011.
