Promoting Independence and Financial Stability

People will learn new skills, become more self-supportive and increase the overall quality of life for themselves and their families.

Examples include:

  • Employment
  • Housing
  • Adult Literacy
  • Emergency Assistance
  • Independent Living for Seniors

In Texas, 10 percent of the population is 65 and older. Our aging population is losing their vision due to age, illness and age-related disease, impairing them from continuing to live independently.

  • $25 provides one-hour of literacy instruction.

  • $40 provides one senior with adaptive devices to help them maintain their independence.

  • $50 provides one hour of individualized training to learn how to be more independent in the community.

  • $500 allows one senior citizen one-on-one, in-home instruction assistance to modify their home and provide adaptive and devices to continue to live independently with vision loss.

  • $2,500 provides 40 hours of training to one blind or visually impaired individual on assistive technology to regain literacy.
