United Way Announces Largest Campaign Results in history
Volunteers, organizations receive top honors at campaign finale celebration

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas announced the largest total raised in its 84-year history and recognized champions of the this year's campaign at the Heroes of Hope celebration held at the Adolphus Hotel.

2007-08 campaign pledges totaled $58,156,304. Additionally, Energy Future Holdings Corp. (formerly TXU Corp.) pledged $1 million to match a special gift from the John and Susan Wilder Foundation, bringing total contributions to $60,156,304.

"The campaign goal announced in September was $56.6 million," said Debbie Taylor, UWMD Campaign Chairman and Regional Director of Southwest Community Relations at Citi. "However, due to the hard work of our campaign cabinet, and a gift from the John and Susan Wilder Foundation that was matched by Energy Future Holdings Corp. (formerly TXU Corp.), we have been able to surpass our goal beyond our wildest expectations."

John and Susan Wilder have been long time supporters of United Way. This year, the Wilders gave a $1 million gift through the campaign at (former) TXU Corp. where Wilder was Chairman and CEO. Energy Future Holdings Corp. (formerly TXU Corp.), has also matched the Wilders' gift of $1 million. A previous United Way gift from the Wilders' foundation enabled 140 children and teens displaced by Hurricane Katrina to attend the Texas-Louisiana Camp for Youth in 2006. In 2007, camp participation swelled to more than 300.

Corporations who boasted million-dollar campaigns this year are: AT&T/CWA 6215; Bank of America; Citi; Combined Federal Campaign of North Central Texas; Deloitte LLP; Energy Future Holdings Corp. (formerly TXU Corp.); Exxon Mobil Corporation; Frito-Lay, Inc.; IBM Corporation; JCPenney; Microsoft; State Employee Charitable Campaign; Texas Health Resources; Texas Instruments Incorporated; U.S. Postal Service, Dallas District; and UPS-Southwest Region and North Texas District

The Heroes of Hope celebration featured the singer-songwriter performance of national recording artists Lauren Jalencovich and WT Greer. The original song LIVE UNITED, recently written and recorded by Greer was premiered at the event, which was sponsored by Celanese Corporation.

"Celanese is proud to help United Way and our colleagues in the business community celebrate such an outstanding campaign", said Celanese CEO David Weidman. "We are thrilled that this year's campaign was a tremendous success and look forward to playing a part in the effort to build on that success in the coming years."
