Spotlight on Joy Dover

Joy Dover knows how to make a campaign fun and educational. When Joy isn't running her incredibly successful United Way campaign, she is the Director of Guest Relations at the Medical Center of Plano (MCP), where she has been a dedicated employee for 23 years. She became campaign chair for MCP four years ago, but has served on several campaigns during her tenure at the hospital.

Serving as chair, Joy has enjoyed building a team that strongly supports United Way with a focus on partnering with local agencies in Collin County. She believes that most people will donate to United Way if they can connect their gift with local partners and the people they serve. She has been able to educate her employees with agency fairs, tours and Departmental Coordinator trainings about United Way.

"I believe in using my gifts for good and my financial resources are a gift which should be used to help others," she said. "United Way is a good way to allocate my financial gift to organizations which are truly doing the important work in our community to help those in need. Through payroll deduction, it's easy to make that donation. I'm fortunate to work for an organization with a culture of giving and community support."

Joy is so thankful for her great Campaign Steering Committee and Campaign Team. The Steering Committee is comprised of managers and directors who truly believe in United Way. They meet weekly for two months prior to kick-off to plan all the elements of the campaign. Each member of the steering committee owns a portion of the campaign, whether it is a special event or directing the publicity. They keep the motivation alive by mixing as much fun as possible into the campaign through themes and special events such as Carnation Day, Halloween Pumpkin Decorating Contest, Gift Basket Raffle and this year’s Casino Night. The Campaign Team is comprised of representatives from each hospital department whose role is to take the campaign message back to their co-workers. By having a large number of people involved in the campaign, we increase the support we have throughout the organization. It's a true team effort.

In addition to her work leading the Campaign and the "We Care" Committee, Joy is very knowledgeable about the agencies, and has served on the Board of Hope's Door in 2000, with a continued interest in supporting their mission. We want to thank Joy for all of her work in spreading the word of United Way and leading such a great Campaign!
