Spotlight on Cami Alexander

Cami Alexander became involved with United Way more than 20 years ago when she served as campaign coordinator for the Dallas County Employees' United Way Campaign. As health and human services liaison for the Dallas County Judge at the time, she regularly attended board meetings of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) and reported back on key health issues faced by members of the community. Since that time, Alexander has maintained involvement with United Way during tenures at JCPenney and, currently, Kimberly-Clark, where she serves as Dallas-area campaign coordinator. She and the campaign team from the Irving headquarters help local teams conduct successful United Way campaigns at 30 mills, plants and other Kimberly-Clark facilities in communities around the United States.

"I like how United Way assesses the critical needs in local communities and pulls together the necessary resources to address those needs. I can always trust that my contribution dollars are well spent when I donate them to United Way. There are so many deserving agencies that fall under their umbrella, and United Way can attest to their needs. It's a very efficient and effective way to give," Alexander said.

Kimberly-Clark and its employees contribute more than $1 million per year to non-profit organizations in the Dallas area alone. Community partners include Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, The Salvation Army, the YMCA, the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, the Dallas Theater Center, the Dallas Women's Foundation, The Dallas Arboretum, Vogel Alcove, Family Gateway, the Child Care Group, The Family Place and The Senior Source.

Additional philanthropic resources are dedicated to three major partnerships with non-profit organizations: YMCA of the USA, supporting their Activate America Initiative, which helps children and their families learn to eat healthy and exercise more; Boys & Girls Clubs of America, supporting their Family PLUS Initiative, which leverages their already-successful youth programming and further reaches out to the families of the children they serve; and The US Fund for UNICEF, which funds child survival programs in developing countries across the globe, especially in India, Indonesia and Brazil.

"Most of my philanthropic work is done through and with the Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Our business is about making products to help care for families at all stages of life, and our national philanthropic efforts align with those business interests: To enhance the health, hygiene and well being of the world's families."

A 1982 graduate of Southern Methodist University, with a double major in Journalism and Political Science, Alexander is married and has a teen son and daughter. In addition to attending their various extra-curricular activities, she is a Girl Scout leader to a troop of 10.

Alexander also dedicates time to the Plano ISD Education Foundation, and serves on the boards of directors of the Renner Middle School and Shepton High School PTAs. She is a member of the North Dallas Chapter of the National Charity League and the Young Men's Service League, and the family is active in their church, St. Andrew United Methodist in Plano.

A self-proclaimed Sudoku addict, Alexander shares that any other spare time she has is spent on the family boat on Lake Lewisville.
