Spotlight on Michael Wetherington
Michael Wetherington, Principal/Equity Analyst for Barrow, Hanley (an Institutional Investment Advisor) has been a United Way volunteer for over seven years.
"I wanted to give back to my community but wasn't sure how and thought the United Way would give me a broad look at the non-profit sector for Dallas and allow me to find my best fit," said Michael. "Initially I expected to find a partner agency I would want to commit to, but it ended up being United Way where I felt I could make the most of my commitment."
Specifically, Michael has volunteered with the allocations process for three years as a panel volunteer, ad hoc committee designing the new allocation process, Stewardship for five years; vice chair for one year and chair for the last two years. Also, he has been a part of the Community Investment Committee for the last three years.
"I believe the Stewardship guidelines help agencies focus on the elements of operations that help them become more financially secure," said Michael. "In several cases there have been agencies that have made difficult but fiscally imperative decisions in order to improve their financial health. It's very encouraging to know that the United Way Stewardship review can help agencies be more focused and efficient in the management of their agency."
During Michael's volunteer work in the allocations process he has been able to accomplish his two goals, positively contributing to the process and improving the process. United Way honors Mr. Michael Wetherington expertise and great enthusiasm in contributing to the community.
