Spotlight on Denward Freeman

Denward Freeman has always known the importance of giving back to his community. That's why after decades of donating to United Way, he agreed to serve on the 2006 United Way Campaign Cabinet, and enthusiastically took responsibility for ensuring all real estate, construction and architectural firm workplace campaigns raised the most money possible for United Way.

Denward began his career at Baylor University Medical Center as a part-time, summer employee. Through the years, he held a number of leadership positions within the organization, and in 1995 accepted the position of president of MEDCO Construction, a subsidiary of Baylor Health Care System. Some of MEDCO's most notable projects include the $90 million Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano Hospital (comprising a new medical office building and parking garage), the $45 million Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, and the new Children's, Youth, and West Wing Education buildings at Lake Pointe Church.

MEDCO Construction currently has over 100 projects in progress, including the $53 million Baylor All Saints Women's Hospital, the $21 million Baylor University Medical Center Emergency Department Project and the $16 million Fellowship Bible Church North.

Denward is a member and past president of the Dallas chapter of the Association of General Contractors, and also served as President of the Texas Building Branch in 2005. He is an active member of Lake Pointe Church, has served as both committee member and chair of Young Life Rockwall, and is a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.

Denward lives in Rockwall with his wife, Shuggie. They have three adult children; Shannon, Kyra and Dustin.
