Spotlight on Charles Gummer

Chuck Gummer has been with Comerica Bank for more than 30 years, serving the last 18 as President and CEO of the Texas Market.

Under Gummer's leadership, the Comerica campaign has steadily grown; culminating in a $351,000 campaign last year, with nearly 80 percent of Comerica associates participating.

Many local organizations have benefited from Chuck's leadership and commitment to volunteer and philanthropic endeavors, including Dallas Summer Musicals, The SMU Cox School of Business, and the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Dallas, among others.

We at United Way Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) are most grateful for Chuck's generous support as both a representative of Comerica Bank, as well as personally. He and his wife, Cindy, lead by example, as long-time Tocqueville Society members.

Gummer has been at the forefront of several UWMD efforts throughout the years. He chaired the United Way campaign in 1997 - achieving 103 percent of the campaign goal and raising more than $46 million. He then served as chairman of the United Way Board in 2000-2001, while taking on the additional role of chairman for our 2001 Capital Campaign. The Capital Campaign resulted in the debt-free facility that houses the United Way offices today. In addition to providing work facilities for United Way staff and volunteers, the facilities also serve as meeting space for several other community groups each year. He also, chaired the Search committee for the current president of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

Gummer was a Chairman of the United Way Foundation Board for several years. The Foundation currently has assets totaling $19 million, contributed by long-time friends of United Way to ensure that both they and United Way can have a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families in our community for years to come.

Chuck has been a good friend to United Way from his earliest days in this community, and we are delighted to welcome many of his colleagues to the area, as Comerica transitions their corporate headquarters to Dallas this year.
