What is United Way of Metropolitan Dallas?

What is United Way doing about people suffering in the current economy?

  • We provide help for hard times and beyond—United Way partner agencies report increased demands this year of 20-40%. 
  • United Way supports the 211 phone service—the best resource to access health and human services.
  • Created a new Web site: www.UnitedWayDallas.org/HelpforHardTimes, which provides resources including foreclosure prevention, health insurance options, credit counseling, job fairs, continuing education, student loans and more.
  • Launched the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! program, which helps families file tax credit claims and receive financial education. Families can use the program to become financially stable and save for the future. In 2009, more than $8 million was put back into the pockets of hard-working Dallas families.
  • United Way programs also provide job training services.
  • Corporate and community donors remain dedicated to providing resources to meet the critical needs of our community by partnering with United Way.

Who oversees the finances of United Way?

What is the administrative cost for United Way of Metropolitan Dallas?

  • Sixteen cents of each dollar raised is used for administrative costs.

Why does United Way support some agencies and not others?

Why do some agencies charge fees?

  • Partner agencies may charge based on the constituent’s ability to pay.

When did Collin County and Greater Lewisville United Ways become part of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas?

  • United Way in Collin and Southern Denton counties merged with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas in 2006.
  • Purpose was to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • There was no interruption of services in either community.
  • There continues to be substantial United Way funding of agencies in Collin and Denton counties.
  • Since not all services are available in these counties, residents also receive a variety of important services from United Way agencies based in Dallas County.

Does my donation go to agencies all over the country?

  • We pay less than one percent to United Way of America in annual dues.

Is my United Way contribution tax deductible?

Our employees and their families are struggling, how can we ask them to give?

  • Demand on our agencies has increased 20-40%.
